DEEPBLAK | Off The Grid [ 02 ] AFRIKAN SCIENCES

Welcome to DEEPBLAK’s podcast series “Off The Grid”. OTG was created to feature the LIVE side of performance via sets from the DEEPBLAK cast, and cohorts. No rules just the artist, their gear, and whatever trajectory they decide to explore. The expectation is to have no expectation simply ride.

OTG [02] is provided by DEEPBLAK Rhythm Czar Eric Porter aka Afrikan Sciences. With his 2nd LP “Theta Wave Brain Sync” slated for Oct. 2013 he provides us with triumphant travel piloted by his unique metronome. If you are new to Afrikan Sciences then welcome. If you are already initiated then you know the score. Hold tight as we visit the distant lands that reside deep within your mind.

AYBEE VLOG | 7906 | SoN’y Rays

A few moments from the 1st SoN’y Rays which is Deepblak’s quarterly gathering diving into LIVE cosmic beats, rhythms, and space travel from the Deepblak cast & fam. Here are a few seconds of what was an amazing set up of Afrikan Sciences, AYBEE, LA Beat Master Dibia$e, and EPS1 of Blaktroniks all wired to jam LIVE. Unfortunately our videographer had to cancel so we don’t have much footage, but you can get an idea of the mode… prepping for 02 stay locked.

Motives & Summer Musings

Was reflecting on the weekend just passed, and was a bit overcome with gratitude over the present creative environment in which I find myself. I connect with my friends…we cook, eat, check in, and then the creative process runs it’s course. It means everything to me that our music/label is not what we do, but an extension of who we are. It’s not about hitting the studio, but the things that lead one into the studio. Living life… the process, and the articulation of that path with the tools we have. I have been leaving our gatherings, phone converstaions, and skype’s filled with inspiration. Filled with excitement as I watch us all push, and grow. It is a truly humbling, and beautiful feeling. Much great music enroute from Pursuit Grooves, Blaktroniks, Shen 07, Damon Bell, Afrikan Sciences and myself. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoy living it. Love, Respekt, and Power Always.

[DBR-CD002] Deepblak – TEN

So here we are at the end of 2011 another amazing year, and the close of Deepblak’s first decade. It is impossible to put into words what has transpired over the last 10 years. So many changes accompanied with so much growth. What started out has a creative refuge developed into a path of rhythmic/self exploration. Opening doors to higher truths that within themselves became inspiration to continue the path. A path that has led us to this present moment with you. In this moment I hope that what we have said musically up until this point serves as inspiration. Inspiration to do if nothing else give you the courage to listen to your inner voice.

Our CD compilation “Ten” is a collection of sentimental favorites from the last decade. These songs are not necessarily our most popular, but were selected because they represent certain pivotal emotional points in the story of the label. For many who are new to Deepblak “Ten” serves as a “Hello” giving them a brief snapshot of the last decade of our sound.

We have learned so much yet still have so much to learn. We thank you for this moment, and we hope that you will tag along for the next stage of our evolution…

Love Respect and Power Always!

AYBEE | i-D Magazine Mix

Promoting stillness through sound, Deepblak Recordings is the visionary label releasing left-of-field soundscapes and entering subliminal voids with their omnipotent rhythm.

Placing an emphasis on dance-floor inspired soul, Aybee describes the paths he uses to discover new talent as “a natural evolution of musical dialogue, that takes place organically between a family of artists.” | Read full interview >

[DBR-D029] Afrikan Sciences – Means and Ways LP

We are proud to play host to the mighty Afrikan Sciences debut album “Means and Ways”. After producing some of the most cosmic soul juggling tracks of the last decade Afrikan Sciences has finally woven together a full length. Already receiving early run from likes of Gilles Peterson Means and Ways is a watermark of rhythmic freedom. True to previous Afrikan Sciences escapades rhythmic rules are re-programmed, and tuned to cosmic frequencies. These are sounds that you need not attempt to control. Ease yourself open your mind, and let the imagination take the wheel. We hope you Enjoy.

Douglass’ preoccupation with rhythm, however, fixates on the oddities—the mutations, the dualities and instances of bare collision. His hoarded beats are gleaned from a whirlwind of origins—west London broken beat, the east coast’s ’90s house, ’40s jazz, indigenous African and Latin rhythms—but they’re deployed concurrently and unexpectedly, with cross-beats and displacement used as accents in his own pidgin dialect. ~ Resident Advisor
